Practicing Oral Hygiene During the Holidays

Holiday travel, family vacations, setting decorations, and hosting parties: the holidays aren’t the comfortable relaxation they first seem to be! As you’re taking the time to enjoy this holiday season, we hope you retain your oral hygiene routine to maximize the welfare of your teeth and gums. Here are some extra tips to keep you on track during the holiday season:

As the old saying goes, don’t forget to pack your toothbrush! Keeping a portable toothbrush, a small bit of floss and some toothpaste in your toiletries kit should be a top priority year-round. Take three to four minutes at the end of every day to brush and floss your teeth; you’ll be thankful you did when you don’t have to get dental fillings! (If you have guests visiting you, try leaving a few tubes of new toothpaste in the bathroom they’ll be using.) If you have an oral exam scheduled during the holidays, ensure to keep it by scheduling your other to-dos around it. You won’t be able to enjoy the holidays to their fullest with painful teeth. Finally, avoid excessively sugary foods like juices, candies and some alcohols that can dry out your mouth and build plaque.
